Why Bamboo Is Not a Tree But a Grass
Bamboo is not a tree species but a grass species
Bamboo has many unique properties, such as its fibers being stronger than steel, it is the fastest growing plant in the world, and it is naturally antibacterial. With heights of up to 30 meters, bamboo is sometimes confused with trees, while bamboo is biologically a type of grass. But why is bamboo actually considered a type of grass and not a type of tree?
There are standard measurements that botanists use to classify plants, these relate to plant characteristics, such as whether they have leaves all year round or shed, whether they have solid stems like trees, or hollow stems like grasses, and how the skin (bark), and other layers grow, whether the plant flowers in a certain way, and so on.
Grass plants are monocotyledonous plants, with a particular leaf and flower morphology that distinguishes them from other plants, they grow very quickly and have long, slender leaves, which qualifies bamboo as a grass rather than a tree.
